1 Thessalonians. 1:4 “For we know, brothers loved by God, that He has chosen you“.
Do you ever feel pressure to be like someone else? I have never been one to intentionally do things to fit in with the people around me. Somehow I escaped that pressure practically my whole life, until I started feeling called to speak to groups of women.
When God started putting the dream in my heart to speak to women a few years ago, it surprised me. I am not the most outgoing person in the world, and I often get nervous speaking in front of groups of people. When I am around groups of women, I often find myself feeling like the one who’s different from everyone else. It’s so easy to feel like I don’t belong.
Isn’t it interesting how we can take the dreams in our hearts and immediately start comparing ourselves (falling short almost every time) to what others are doing?
I have no idea what the final destination of this dream in my heart will be, but I do know that it will be the avenue that He has specifically chosen for me – not one that was made for someone else, or one that I strived to achieve on my own.
Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you”.
It’s amazing to me how easily we can sometimes start thinking that I’m “not this” and “not that” when we start comparing ourselves to other people. I think we all do that to some extent. Why is it that we so often see our deficits so much easier than our gifts? If God wanted you to be like someone else, He would have made you that way. He created you with gifts and strengths specific to you and what He has called you to do.
God called each of us to do what He wants us to do, knowing full well who we are and who we are going to be when the dreams we have begin to unfold.
He is equipping your heart for the destiny He has prepared for you.
Do you feel pressure to be like someone else? I encourage you today to know that God doesn’t require you to fit into any type of mold that He hasn’t made for you! Whatever He has called you to do, He will train you up for it. You may look different, act different, and have a completely different style than anyone else you know who does something similar to what He’s called you to do, but that’s ok! He wants you to be you, not someone else.
Freedom is embracing who God created you to be.
A huge part of walking in freedom is embracing who God created you to be – not who He created someone else to be. Are you trying to fit into a mold that God never asked you to fit into? I encourage you to search your heart and ask God who you were created to be.
When we embrace who God created us to be, we can begin to fulfill the destiny He has planned for our lives. There is no better place to be!
Psalm 139: 13-16 “For you created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be”.
