John 15:1-4 says, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me”.
Have you been through God’s pruning process? If you truly surrender yourself to Him, you will eventually go through it.
Actually, it should be a continual process as we grow in our knowledge and understanding of Him. No, it’s not fun. It’s completely necessary, though, and it’s what clears the dead branches off of us. He carefully prunes us, carefully removing the branches that are dead, while leaving the ones that bear good fruit.
You can feel like you’re broken and dying.
Actually, you are dying when God prunes you! You are becoming more like Jesus. He cuts away everything that is not of Him.
He prunes us because He loves us.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths”.
Are you going through a time of pruning?
“Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17).
When God prunes you, it can make you feel broken, crushed and raw. When you go through times like this, ask God what He is doing in the circumstances that are going on in your life. Yield everything over to Him. Hand over all of your pain, anger, frustration and brokenness.
As a loving Father, He does not want to leave you as He found you. He wants to help you become more like Him; more like the person He created you to be.
The weaker your flesh becomes, the stronger His Spirit becomes in you. Pour your heart out to Him during times like this (in all times, really), and He will hear your cry. He knows your heart much better than you even do.
He’s with you, and He hasn’t left you. Even when it feels like you’re broken, He has His arms safely wrapped around you.
The pruning process is not easy by any means, but it is the process that makes you more like Him! You will someday be able to look back and see the all the “dead” parts replaced with His LIFE. Could it get any better than that? Death replaced with life! Only He can do that!
Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose”.
Lord, Jesus, thank you so much for loving us enough to prune us. When you prune us, it shows that we are Your children. Yes, it can hurt, but we won’t bear Your fruit otherwise. Thank you for not leaving us like you found us. There is so much freedom found in getting to the other side and becoming more like You. Thank you for your faithfulness, Jesus. In Your name I pray. Amen.
